Have you ever said something to yourself that you would never dream of saying to someone you love?
I have. For over twenty years.
"Ben, you suck." "Give it up, you will never pull this off." "Who do you think you are? You are a nobody."
I grew up being compared to the cream of the crop. Siblings and cousins who breezed through school while I flunked my studies and landed in the worst classes. Somewhere along the way I picked up a voice that narrated all of it back to me, and that voice was cruel. It followed me for decades, and for most of that time I did not even notice it was there. It just felt like the truth.
If you have ever spoken to yourself like that, this one is for you. We are going to shine a light on the way you talk to yourself, and if that inner voice has been harsh and unforgiving, we are going to learn how to change it.
Most people think self-talk is just thoughts in the head. Background noise. From an Inner Feng Shui point of view, it is something far more powerful. Self-talk is energy in motion.

Here is a question worth sitting with. Would you say the things you say to yourself to someone you genuinely care about? Your little sister. Your partner. Your niece or nephew when they are struggling with something new.
Almost certainly not. You know those words would wound them. You know they would discourage the person and make them shrink. So if you would never aim that language at someone you love, why is it acceptable to aim it at yourself?
Here is what is interesting. We do not usually choose our self-talk on purpose. It is not a decision we make each morning. It is part of how we have been programmed, built up through years and often decades of conditioning. Just as a computer runs the software installed on it, your mind runs the self-talk that has been installed in you. It happens automatically, before you have even noticed.
And that is actually the good news. Anything that has been programmed into you can be de-programmed and replaced with something better. The first move is simply to become aware of how you have been speaking to yourself. Once you can hear the voice clearly, you can start to change it.

So what does it actually mean to say self-talk is energy in motion?
Imagine you are trying to fix a lightbulb and your uncle walks in and says, "Just give up, you cannot fix that, call a professional." Or you offer to babysit your niece and someone says, "No, I do not trust you with that." How would you feel?
Tense, probably. Maybe defensive, because you know you are capable. Maybe discouraged enough to stop trying altogether. That reaction is the whole point. Words do not just carry meaning. They carry an emotional charge, and that charge lands directly on your chi.
Harsh, critical language causes your chi to contract. Warm, encouraging language causes it to expand. This is not mystical. It is your nervous system responding to the signals you feed it.
When your self-talk sounds like "I always mess this up," "I am terrible at this," or "this is pointless," your body responds as though it is under threat. Your chi contracts. And when chi contracts over and over, you lose motivation, you start to doubt yourself, the inner voice grows louder, your frequency drops, and it becomes harder to take any real action toward the things you want.
Now swap the language. "This is challenging, but I can figure it out." "It is okay that I am not good at this yet, I am still learning." Read those out loud and notice how different they feel in your body. That is your chi expanding. Same situation, completely different energy, purely because of the words you chose.

So we just reach for positive affirmations, right? Not so fast.
I have watched thousands of people try to fix negative self-talk by leaping straight into extreme positivity. "I am amazing." "Everything is perfect." "I am successful no matter what anyone says." It feels like it should work. It usually does the opposite.
The problem is that your brain knows when something is not true. And the moment it senses the claim is false, it quietly rejects it and reverts to the old programming.
Picture this. You have three overdue bills sitting on the counter waiting for a paycheck that has not arrived. Things at home with your family feel strained. You are dealing with a nagging health issue. And your boss has been breathing down your neck for months. Now stand in the middle of all that and tell yourself, "Everything is perfect." Your brain sets off the B.S. alarm. Instead of lifting you, the affirmation backfires and reinforces the exact opposite belief, that life is a mess and nothing is working.
That is why we do not chase extreme positivity. We reach for something within your control and believable instead. Look at the difference:
Instead of "I am so bad at this, I suck," try: "This is new, and I am still learning. Eventually I will get better."
Instead of "I cannot do this," try: "This feels uncomfortable, but discomfort is part of the growing process."
Instead of "This is just who I am, I can never change," try: "Change is hard, but it is possible."
Notice what the second version does. It does not deny the reality you are standing in. It simply strips out the emotional violence. And when the violence is gone and your brain starts to see possibilities instead of dead ends, your chi expands rather than contracts. That is the whole secret. Believable, not delusional.
Let me hand you the framework I use, which I call the Two-Step Self-Talk Reset Process. It is deliberately simple, because simple is what you will actually remember in the heat of the moment.
Because negative self-talk has been programmed into you over decades, it runs on autopilot. Usually you say something cruel to yourself, brush it off, and carry on with your day without a second thought. But change cannot happen while you are asleep at the wheel. You have to catch the voice in the act and acknowledge, clearly, that this is a pattern worth changing.
Once you have caught it, pause and reframe. Remember the rule. Aim for something within your control and believable. Do not leap into extreme positivity. Here are some everyday examples of that reset in action:
| Situation | Automatic Self-Talk | A More Chi-Supportive Reframe |
|---|---|---|
| You make a mistake at work | "I am so careless. I always mess things up." | "I made a mistake, and I can learn from it and correct it." |
| You feel behind compared to others | "Everyone else is doing better than me." | "I am on my own timeline, and progress is not linear." |
| You do not feel motivated today | "I am so lazy. What is wrong with me?" | "My energy is low today, but that does not define me. It is okay to take breaks." |
| You receive criticism or feedback | "They think I am incompetent." | "They bother giving feedback because they see potential in me. I can use this to grow." |
| You try something new and feel uncomfortable | "I am terrible at this. I should not even try." | "Discomfort is part of the learning journey, not a sign of failure." |
What I want you to notice across every row is this. We are never denying reality. We are simply moving the language from something that drains your energy to something within your control and believable. That single shift is the difference between chi that contracts and chi that expands.

Learning to speak to yourself kindly is one of the quiet skills that changes everything. And it is one half of a much bigger picture.
Inside Chi Manifestation, rewiring your self-talk is one piece of a complete system. On its own, softening that inner voice lifts a real weight off your day. Combined with everything else we teach, it becomes the foundation for a genuinely different way of living.
Here is why both sides matter. Your physical environment carries its own energetic charge. Arranged well, it creates the conditions for luck and opportunity to flow toward you. But if your inner state is still ruled by a harsh inner voice that mutters "you will only mess this up" or "people like you do not get these chances," those opportunities arrive and pass right by. Unnoticed, or quietly sabotaged before they can take root. You can set your space up perfectly and still block what it sends you, purely because your inner world is not ready to receive it.
That is the argument at the heart of the Inner and Outer Feng Shui System. It brings together over 5,000 years of ancient Chinese energetic wisdom with modern, science-backed psychology, developed by a second-generation Feng Shui master from Singapore and a certified psychotherapist and counsellor. Most programmes work on one side. This one works on both. Because one without the other only gets you halfway.

You do not need to silence your inner critic by the weekend. That is not the assignment, and chasing it will only frustrate you. Some of these patterns have been running for thirty, forty, fifty years. They loosen gradually, not overnight.
So here is a gentle challenge for the next seven days. Each day, catch yourself in one moment of harsh self-talk. Just one. Write down what you said. Then, underneath it, write a reframe that is within your control and believable, using the examples above as your guide. That is it. No grand performance, no forced positivity, just one honest reset a day.
Do that for a week and something shifts. You start to hear the voice sooner. The reframes come faster. And bit by bit, the language that used to contract your chi begins to expand it instead. You are not becoming a different person. You are simply learning to speak to yourself the way you would speak to someone you love.
Be patient with yourself while you do it. You are working with a voice that has been there a very long time.
See you in the next one.
