Ask most people what is standing between them and the life they want, and you will get a practical answer. Not enough time. Not enough money. Not the right connections.
Almost nobody names the real one.
Fear.
And here is the part that tends to surprise people. You were born with exactly two fears. Two. Everything else you are carrying around today, you picked up somewhere along the way.

Human beings arrive with two innate fears. The fear of loud noises, and the fear of falling from a height. That is the entire list. It is why a newborn startles and cries when a door slams, and why a baby will refuse to crawl across a glass floor that looks like a cliff edge, even with their mother calling from the other side.
So what about the rest?
The fear of failing. The fear of being rejected. The fear of being judged. The fear of not being good enough. None of those came with you. You learnt them. You absorbed them from your environment, by watching and listening to your family, your friends, and the society you grew up in. If your parents flinched at what the neighbours might think, there is a very good chance you flinch at it too.
This matters far more than it sounds. If a fear was installed, it can be updated. You are not stuck running software you did not write.

Fear itself is not a flaw. At its core it is a defence mechanism, run by a small almond-shaped region of the brain called the amygdala. Back in our caveman days, that little region kept us alive. It made us wary of the rustle in the bushes, because sometimes the rustle was a tiger.
Our environment has changed enormously since then. Our brains have barely changed at all. The amygdala is still sitting there, and it still has exactly one job. So it does that job constantly, whether or not there is anything to do it about.
You have felt this. A beautiful quiet morning, good coffee, sunlight on the table, nothing wrong anywhere. And out of nowhere your mind serves up the presentation on Thursday. Or the weekend your in-laws are coming to stay. Nothing changed in the room. Your amygdala simply went looking for a tiger and found one.
So here is a working definition, and I want you to sit with it. Fear is an image in your mind of pain that has not happened yet.
And here is the irony at the centre of the whole thing. Fear exists to help you avoid future pain. But it works by making you vividly imagine that pain, which stops you taking action today. And if you do not take action today, the painful future becomes far more likely. The fear quietly creates the very thing it was trying to protect you from.
After working with people across different countries, ages, backgrounds and life stages, I keep meeting the same five fears. I call them cognitive fears, because that is precisely what they are. Not real dangers. Constructions, built by the mind out of overthinking, self-doubt, and the stories we tell ourselves about what might happen.
They are worth naming, because a fear you can name loses a surprising amount of its grip. See which ones you recognise.
The fear of not hitting the goal. It shows up as procrastination and indecision, and as telling people in advance that it probably will not work, so expectations stay low. The irony is that it usually stops you trying properly, which makes the failure it fears far more likely.
The fear of being told no. It is rooted in our need to belong, and it looks like constantly adjusting your behaviour to avoid disapproval, or rehearsing what people might think and say. It is also why sales is such a well-paid profession. Very few people are comfortable being turned down.
This one surprises people. It is the fear of actually getting what you asked for, and underneath it sits a fear of change. More responsibility. More visibility. Being seen differently by the people who knew the old you. Left unexamined it turns into self-sabotage, where you quietly pull back exactly when things start going well.
Better known as imposter syndrome. The fear that you are not good enough and that someone is about to notice. Highly capable, genuinely accomplished people feel this constantly, especially when stepping into something new. It usually sounds like, who am I to be doing this?
The fear of being left, or of losing connection with people you care about. We are wired for belonging, so this one runs deep. It shows up as people-pleasing, swallowing your own opinions, and keeping your real thoughts to yourself in case they push someone away.
Take a moment with that list. Most people find one or two that land uncomfortably close. That discomfort is useful information, not a problem.

Cognitive fear almost always begins as a thought.
The moment the thought appears, the feeling follows. And your body responds as though the danger is real, because your brain cannot tell the difference between a threat that exists and one you have imagined. Your nervous system switches on. Breathing goes shallow. Muscles tighten. Your chi, your life force energy, stops flowing freely and starts to contract.
Then come the behaviours. Avoidance. Procrastination. Self-doubt. Overthinking. Complete paralysis.
Which makes perfect sense when you look at it plainly. Nobody works hard towards a future that looks awful. Your mind painted a bleak picture, and your body sensibly refused to walk towards it.
But if you keep taking the same actions you have taken for the last ten years, what exactly is going to change? That is the honest question sitting underneath all of this.
So can you switch the amygdala off? No. You cannot, and you would not want to. But you can work with it instead of against it, and that is where this gets interesting.

Understanding where your fear came from is the moment it stops running the show quietly in the background.
Inside Chi Manifestation, this work on fear is one piece of a much larger system. On its own, naming your cognitive fears loosens their grip. Placed alongside everything else we teach, it becomes part of a genuinely different way of moving through your life.
Here is why both halves matter. Your physical environment carries its own energetic charge. Arranged well, it creates the conditions for luck and opportunity to flow towards you. But if your inner state is contracted, braced against a future you have imagined and quietly avoiding anything unfamiliar, those opportunities arrive and pass straight by. You do not even see most of them. The ones you do see, you talk yourself out of. You can set your space up perfectly and still let everything it sends you slip away, simply because fear is deciding what you are willing to reach for.
That is the argument at the heart of the Inner and Outer Feng Shui System. It brings together over 5,000 years of ancient Chinese energetic wisdom with modern, science-backed psychology, developed by a second-generation Feng Shui master from Singapore and a certified psychotherapist and counsellor. Most programmes work on one side. This one works on both. Because one without the other only gets you halfway.

The first move sounds contradictory. You are going to deliberately create a fear.
Not just any fear. The fear of regret.
In my experience it is the single most useful fear a person can carry, because it is the only one pointing in a direction worth going. Remind yourself, often, that very little in life is worse than reaching the end of it and realising you spent the whole thing being careful. Not broke. Not embarrassed. Just careful.
When the fear of regret becomes louder than the fear of failing or the fear of what people might say, something shifts. The other fears are still there. They just stop being the biggest voice in the room. And you start moving.
Life is too short to spend it scared, angry, anxious, sad, or worried. That is not a slogan. It is arithmetic.

The second move is to walk towards the fear rather than around it, and ask one deliberately unglamorous question. If I ignore this fear, what is the worst that can actually happen?
Then answer it properly. Not vaguely. Specifically. Most of the time, once you have reasoned it through, the worst realistic outcome turns out to be something you could live with.
There is research behind this. Cornell University published a study finding that 85% of what we worry about never happens at all. And of the 15% that does happen, 79% of people found it was not as bad as they had expected. Run the numbers and roughly 97% of our worries never come true in the way we feared them.
Think about what that means for your energy. Almost all of it is being spent bracing for things that are not coming.
So here is the practical work, and I would ask you to do it on paper rather than on a screen. Write your fears down. All of them, in plain language. Then beside each one, write the worst realistic outcome, and what you would actually do if it happened. Something strange happens when a fear moves out of your head and onto a page. It shrinks. It has to become specific, and specific things are far less frightening than vague ones.
There is a line I keep coming back to. If you are scared of doing something new, do it scared.
You were born with two fears. The rest were handed to you, and anything handed to you can be handed back.
You will not silence your amygdala, and that is fine. You do not need to feel fearless. You need to stop treating an imagined future as a forecast. Name the fear. Ask what would really happen. Make the fear of regret louder than the fear of looking foolish. Then take the small action anyway, hands shaking if necessary.
The courage was never in feeling calm. It is in moving while you are not.
See you in the next one.
